In 1993, the Royal Hawaiian Mint "Hawaiianized" genuine U.S. coins into "Aloha Money" by counterstamping everyday change with a special ALOHA MONEY die on the obverse and the name of the coin on the reverse. It was a crazy idea that many people enjoyed and collected. The set of six contained a counterstruck U.S. penny, nickel, dime, quarter, half dollar, and dollar.
This half dollar was a standard 1971-D in VF grade before it was embellished.
Researchers claim there were only 275 sets made.
